This remarkable therapy, originating from ancient Chinese healing practices, utilizes negative pressure by creating suction, lifting connective tissue, releasing rigid tissue, and loosening adhesions. Your skilled therapist applies the cup to suction the skin, then move it along the length of the muscle, releases the suction, and finally incorporates a massage that is customized to your needs. The cups may also be parked for a short time to facilitate joint mobilization or soft tissue release. Incorporating a massage and cupping, approaches tension in two different ways, through downward pressure (massage) and upward suction (cupping). Another benefit is to pull toxins and inflammation from the body to the surface of the skin where the lymphatic system can more readily eliminate them.
*Please note that cupping therapy may leave temporary marks in areas where the cups are applied. The gliding technique that we use most often reduces the redness that cupping may produce. At times it may be required to park the cups for short periods, techniques applied depend of the specific need of the client.
